How’s the Katy Rental Market?

rental property in katy texasOne of my listings just wouldn’t sell but, as soon as we listed it for rent, it had a lease contract in five days! It rented for $3200 per-month.

The home is pictured to the left. As you can see, it is gorgeous! It didn’t sell because it was for sale at $410,000, and, although it was listed at fair market value, this has been a slow price point in this semi-distressed market. High end rentals are a different story.

In fact, rentals at all prices do not been stay on the market for long. Yes, the rental market is fast and furious in some areas of Katy. This is particularly true on the southside of  Interstate 10 but north side property is ahead of the historic curve for rentals, too. Read more

St. Bart’s Happy Hearts Annual Craft & Bake Sale

stbartThe senior fellowship group of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church, Happy Hearts, will be hosting its Annual Craft and Bake Sale the weekend of October 17th and 18th starting at 5:00 pm mass on Saturday evening.  The event will be kicked off with a Chicken Tortilla Soup Supper.  Bowls of soup will be available for $2.  Take home containers may also be purchased.  Drinks and desserts will be for sale.  Members of Happy Hearts have been working on a variety of quality art and craft items for the sale such as wooden crucifixes, bird houses, bird feeders, beaded wire crosses, coasters, hand made jewelry, purses, baby items, Christmas wreaths and decorations.  At the Country Store, fresh homemade Czech egg noodles, preserves, and a variety of home made delicious cakes, pies, and cookies will be waiting to tempt you.  On Saturday, the 18th a light breakfast and coffee will be available and the craft sale will begin after the 7:30 am mass and will end at 1pm. St. Part’s is located at 5356 Eleventh Street in Katy.  Come and enjoy the food and do a little early christmas shopping for unique one o a kind gifts.

“Ride to Rosenberg” 10th Annual Car Show October 17th

Saturday, October 17, 2009, you won’t want to miss the 10th Annual “Ride to Rosenberg” Car Show! 

From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm you’ll be able to see classic cars, hot rods, custom cars, and more.  Judging begins at 11:00 am.  There will be awards, door prizes, and Best in Show.  Entrants receive a free t-shirt and goody bag.  You won’t want to wait long as there is a 100 car limit.

Houston Area Woodcarvers Club Fall Show & Competition on October 3rd

hawcOn October 3rd, Wood carvers from the greater Houston area will be displaying their art and competing for awards and prizes.

A whittling contest will be held from 1:30 – 2:30 pm followed by an awards presentation at 3 pm.  Awards will be given for Best of Show, People’s Choice, and Judge’s Choice.

Carving examples range from realistic, caricature, “in the round”, relief and chip carving.  No two carvings are alike, even by the same arist because each is individually carved.  Ornaments for the club’s charity Christmas project benefiting Texas Children’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Hospital will also be on display.

The Houston Area Woodcarvers Club’s talented members range in carving experience from several months to many years.  Several members have competed in and won national competitions.

Living Word Lutheran Church Multi-Cultural Festival on October 4th

globalmissionfestLiving Word Lutheran Church will hold its sixth annual Global Mission Festival on Sunday, October 4th, from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm.  The event and parking are free.  The Festival offers an arts and crafts sale featuring fair trade items from around the world, musical entertainment, ethnic foods, and children’s games.  Featured guest speaker is Dr. Leonard Sweet, author, preacher, scholar and ordained United Methodist clergyman.  In both 2006 and 2007, Sweet was voted one of the 50 Most Influential Christian Leaders in America.  Dr. Sweet will speak at 2:00 pm during a multi-cultural worship service. Cy-Fair CERT Golf Tournament on October 2nd

CERTGOLFCy-Fair CERT – Community Emergency Response Team – will hold a golf tournament on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Bear Creek Golf Club, Masters Course.  The tournament format will be a Four Person Scramble with a Shotgun Start at 9 am.

Fee is $100 per golfer.  Entry includes 1/2 cart, lunch, gift bag, and 4 free future rounds of golf per golfer at an Arnold Palmer course in Houston.  There will be contests will prizes awarded to the winners.   Sponsorhips are available from $50 to $1000 with banner recognition.  A sponsor advertizing table will also be available. 

The Tournament proceeds will benefit Cy-Fair CERT and a projet to place storage container filled with emergency supplies in the Cy-Fair neighborhoods.  CERT has over 250 trained Cy-Fair members  who volunteered in local neighborhoods after Hurricane Ike.

The 29th Annual Katy Rice Harvest Festival on October 10th & 11th

The 29th Annual Katy Rice Harvest Festival is two big days of excitement and family fun with two stages of continuous live entertainment, craft and food booths, carnival and more.  

The event is held in Historic Downtown Katy, Texas, just 28 miles west of Houston.  It’s been voted by the Community as the Best Annual Community Event and named one of Houston Area’s Top Ten Festivals!

The Rice Harvest Festival will feature a full scale carnival, a children’s carnival, two stages of live entertainment (see line up below), and over 250 craft and food vendors!  There is sure to be something for everyone in the family to enjoy!

  The Rice Harvest Festival will be held from 10:00 am to Midnight on Saturday, October 10th and again on Sunday, October 11th from noon to 6:00 pm. 

 Tickets are $6.00 for adults and free for children 12 and under.  Senior Citizens and Military are also free with ID.   There will be Free Shuttle Service from Parking by Outdoor Learning Center by Merrell Center at 6301 S Stadium Lane in Katy.

Lone Star College’s Fifth Annual Cy-Fest on October 10th
