A Girl’s Day Out with the Stonecroft Women of Katy
On Thursday, December 17th, the Stonecroft Women of Katy is hosting a December Luncheon titled “A Girl’s Day Out.” This great event features shopping, networking, an inspiring speaker, Christmas music, and a delicious lunch.
Speaker Christine Rothchild will be sharing How to Look Like a Million Bucks without Spending it.
The luncheon is $16.00 per person and will be held at The Club at Falcon Point, 24503 Falcon Point Drive in Katy. Doors open at 10:30 for shopping and lunch will be served at 11:30.

Taylor Best Buddies Poinsettia Sale
Taylor High School Best Buddies is having it’s Poinsettia Sale with pickup on December 3rd.
This year’s colors are: Traditional Red, Pink, Burgundy, White and Jingle Bells (red with white flecks…really pretty!)
If you have bought them before, you know that they are big and beautiful!
There are no others like these! Each poinsettia comes in a 6” pot with a green pot cover. The plants are $10.00 each.

Best Buddies is a national organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of students with mental & physical challenges by providing opportunities for one-on-one friendships. Interested students will be interviewed and matched with a participant. Students will then participate in group and individual social activities with their “Buddies.”
Taylor High School Holiday Home Tour 2009

Taylor High School Project Grand is sponsoring a 2009 Holiday Home Tour. Tickets are $10 and are available at Katy Flower Market and Hauerland’s as well as the houses on the tour.
The first tour will take place from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, December 3rd. On Friday, there are two tour opportunities from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and at 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Seven Lakes High School Fifth Annual Holiday Extravaganza

The Seven Lakes High School Choir is holding it’s Fifth Annual Holiday Extravaganza on December 11th. This is sure to be a fun night and a great way to support the Seven Lakes High School Fine Arts Department Musical Fund.
The evening includes a fundraising dinner and silent auction from 5:30 pm to 7:25 pm in the SLHS Commons. After dinner, there will be fine art performances by the SLHS Jazz Band, Choir, Orchestra, Sapphires, Speech and Debate, and the Theater Arts Department in the Performing Arts Center beginning at 7:30 pm.

Texas Guitar Quartet at Kingsland Baptist
Since its inception in 2005, the Texas Guitar Quartet is quickly being recognized as one of Texas’s top guitar ensembles. Isaac Bustos, Jonathan Dotson, Alejandro Montiel and Oscar Villanueva, all of who have garnered acclaim and critical praise as soloists on concert stages around the world and in a multitude of international guitar competitions, comprise TxGQ. The variety of styles and different influences of each member give the quartet unusual strength of sound and musical variety rarely seen in new ensembles.

Cinco Ranch Ladies Club Fashion Show Luncheon
On December 12th, the Cinco Ranch Ladies Club is hosting a Fashion Show Luncheon for men and women in an effort to raise money to benefit Katy’s Breath of Life. Breath of Life benefits children who cannot afford immunizations and families who have lost jobs and need help with medical assistance.
This fun event will be held at Pine Forest Country Club, 18003 Clay Rd. from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm on December 12th.

Infant Holy: A Musical Celebration of Life
If you are looking for holiday entertainment to get you in the mood for the season, you won’t want to miss the performance of harp and voice at Christ Church PCA on December 4th.
Susanna Campbell and Ashley Lyons, harpists, and Joanne Bonasso, soprano, will present familiar and timeless carols such as “Silent Night” and “What Child Is This” as well as introducing you to several beautiful lesser known carols.
This musical celebration will begin at 7:30 pm in the sanctuary at Christ Church PCA, 3025 Katy Gaston Road. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Pregnancy Help Center of West Houston, a ministry dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of anyone affected by an unplanned pregnancy.
New Christmas Tree Farm in the Katy Area
Katy area residents have a new option for their Christmas tree shopping this year. Beginning Friday, November 27th, families are invited to come to Dewberry Farm and cut their own Christmas tree. The Farm has over 3,000 trees ready for harvest. You can choose from Virginia Pines, Leland Cypress, Murry Cypress, and Blue Ice varieties. Sizes range from 3 to 10 ft tall. KVPAC Presents Nightmare Before Christmas
Just in time for the holidays, Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center is bringing a musical adaptation of the beloved Tim Burton tale, Nightmare Before Christmas.
Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, is bored with doing the same thing every year for Halloween. One day he stumbles into Christmas Town, and is so taken with the idea of Christmas that he tries to get the resident bats, ghouls, and goblins of Halloween town to help him put on Christmas instead of Halloween — but alas, they can’t get it quite right.
You won’t want to miss this great event on Friday, December 11th at 7:00 pm. The performance is directed by Tamara Grisko and assitant directors Tira Burford and Adam Turner.

Thanksgiving for Homeless Pets
Looking for something heartwarming this Thanksgiving? How about some homeless Houston pets getting a taste of holiday turkey? Rover Oaks Pet Resort is cooking Thanksgiving turkeys for the cats and dogs at the Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) shelter on I-10.
Last year, they served turkey meals for the dogs and cats staying at our pet resort over the holidays. This year, however, we decided to cook extra turkeys and share them with the dogs and cats at the CAP shelter who are waiting for their forever homes.

Who’s Purchasing Homes?

According to the National Association of Realtors, the following data reflects 2008 real estate statistics. Data for 2009 will not be available until the fall of 2010.
- Among both first-time and repeat buyers, single female buyers are nearly twice the share of single male buyers.
- Among first-time buyers the share of single female buyers was 25 percent, and the share was 17 percent among repeat buyers.
- Married couples are the most common household type among home buyers. They are nearly half of all first-time buyers, and they are more than two-thirds of repeat buyers.
- First-time buyers are typically younger than repeat buyers. More than half of first-time buyers were between 25 and 34 years of age.
- According to the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data (HMDA), the median income of homebuyers using mortgage financing was $71,600 in 2008.
- Median income of primary homebuyers was $67,900, and that of vacation/investment home buyers was $118,100.
