West I-10 Fire Station Opening

Published on August 4, 2009 by Carson Coots

After 18 months of construction, the West I-10 Fire Department is hosting a grand opening to celebrate the new “Station 4″ facility located on Franz Road.  The grand opening will take place at the station on August 8th from 1 to 4 p.m.  There will be food and drinks, and Katy residents are invited to check out the new facility and meet the firefighters.

Station 4 has been at its present location for years but recently underwent major construction. The station was tore down and rebuilt from the ground up.  Ray Miranda is the Captain of the station and along with his crew are responsible for E4 and TWR4.

The $2 million building features an audio/visual communications room that can become a command center during major catastrophes.  It has 3 fire engine bays equipped with state-of-the-art bay doors, which open 2 feet per second.  The new fire station also has a gym room and full-sized kitchen.
