HCC Pandora’s Box Invites Community to Watch Clean-Air Documentary at Katy Campus
Tuesday, October 7, Pandora’s Box presents Fighting Goliath: The Texas Coal Wars (34 min), a documentary developed by Robert Redford that follows the story of Texans fighting a high-stakes battle for clean air. A panel of participants in the power plant fight follows. Eric Mayer, Lawyer; Elena Marks, Mayor White’s Office; and ranchers Robert and Jo Cervenka will tell of their roles in the fight and what looms ahead for Texas energy. Academic Dean Butch Herod will moderate the panel and take questions from the audience. Read more
The Katy Rice Harvest Festival 2008
The Katy Rice Harvest Festival has been a Katy tradition since 1978, honoring the Katy rice farming legacy. Although the number of rice farmers and fields in the area has lowered significantly since that time, Katy still holds a festival honoring the legacy. The festival is held on October 11 and 12, 2008 in Downtown Katy.
The Festival features crafts, food, and live entertainment on 2 stages. It’s fun for the whole family. Each year, about 40,000 - 50,000 visitors attend the Rice Harvest Festival. Read more
The Starbucks Mixed Media Series: Sept 6

The Starbucks Mixed Media Music Series at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is back for its final installment of 2008. The late-night music series will take place Saturday, September 6, from 8 p.m. to midnight, showcasing an eclectic mix of music from James Pants, Small Town DJs and returning resident DJ Ceeplus Bad Knives. The event draws inspiration from END GAME - British Contemporary Art from the Chaney Family Collection, which showcases the provocative work of a generation of artists who changed the art world. The Katy Nation Reality Series?
Katy High School has won five state football championships starting in 1959 and then again in 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2007. Football is big in Katy, and everyone wants to know what the secret is. In January of 2007, Author and actor Dexter clay released Katy Nation, a book covering the history of the amazing Katy sports program, and exploring the connections between Katy’s winning mentality and the American way. In 1979 a group of concerned citizens who wanted to save the old MKT depot, which was slated for demolition, formed the Katy Heritage Society. Since that time, the Katy Heritage Society has been working as a charitable organization to fulfill one mission: to further educational and cultural development of the community by preserving and restoring historical landmarks and documents.
Today, The Katy Heritage Society opens our historic homes for free public tours, we host free community concerts from our bandstand, conduct tours for students and tourists and serve as a key source for historic information and research in the area. Read more

The Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet Expo is coming to the Katy area Cullen Park on Saturday & Sunday Aug 9th and 10th, 2008. New Cigar Lounge Open in Katy
Robustos Cigar Lounge is Katy’s newest cigar aficionado’s hot spot. It recently opened on the corner of Westgreen and I-10 in the Westgreen Park shopping center (in the same location as the former Whiskey Mill). A Real Drive-In Theater Only Minutes From Katy?
It sounds too good to be true but apparently it is coming. Although rain has delayed construction, the Stars at Night Drive-In will be completed soon about 8 minutes West of Katy in Brookshire. According to the website, the theater will bring an old tradition back for a new generation with a traditional drive-in, putt-putt golf, and arcade and of course your typical all-American concessions offering cheeseburgers, chili-dogs, pizza, popcorn and ice cream.
