Gridiron Ace breakdown
No question that the game of the week, and maybe the year at least for the regular season was the Katy vs. North game, which did not disappoint. Aside from these two squads being some of the best our state has to offer, there was a national record on the line as well. Up until Saturday, the North Shore football team had won 78 consecutive regular season football games. But as you know the streak ended as Katy wins on a special teams mishap pulling off a 9-7 victory at Rhodes Stadium. Read more

Katy Tigers Going for Back-to-Back State Titles
What the Katy Tigers have done this season is more than applaudable. Seems like the statement ‘losing the battle, but winning the war’ is somewhat appropriate. First, it was North Shore. Then, the beat down by The Woodlands. Finally, the district crown was taken from cross-town rivals Cinco Ranch.
But at this point in time, none of that matters because all the teams mentioned that drew early blood are all sitting at home while Katy is going to Reliant to play in the state game. So, the Gridiron Ace is back to bring you an exclusive inside look at Tigers as they get ready for the state game Saturday. This report is exclusive for the readers of OnlyKaty.com. Read more

Katy Football: The Rhodes Report 9/24/2008
Welcome sports fans from the Katy community to the first edition of the Rhodes Report sports blog. This blog, which is exclusive to the readers of OnlyKaty.com, will provide a weekly wrap up of Katy ISD’s football teams.
First, let me start by saying that I hope that all are safe and making successful recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. With that said, now would be as good of time as any to pull together as citizens by giving each other a helping hand.
As for this past week, power outages and major damage caused a large number of games (both football and volleyball) in the Greater Houston area to be either postponed or canceled. But the Katy ISD athletic department decided to have three football games at Rhodes Stadium, which proved to be a good outlet not only for the players, but the Katy community as well.
This was evident by viewing all who were in attendance. It did not matter what team was playing on the field, there were team paraphernalia represented by all six schools at the various games. Read more
