On Saturday, September 25th, from 7:00 – 11:00 pm, the Cy-Woods Band will be hosting their fifth annual Casino Night at Cypress Woods High School.  This fun event is great way to help support the Wildcat Band and Color Guard.

The Memorial Fund Raising Committee, League City and League City Art Guild are co-hosting a BBQ benefit to help raise funds to place a copy of the limited edition sculpture, entitled, “Most Precious Offering” to Honor the families of fallen heroes.

This event is scheduled for September 11th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at League Park on Park Street, League City, TX (by the gazebo).  Come enjoy entertainment, a live auction and quilt raffle.

Created by artist, Saundra Whiddon to honor the courage and sacrifice of all parents who from infancy, held and nurtured the soldier and now, for the sake of others, must let him go. In the final goodbye, the parents exhibit purpose and unspeakable selflessness. The infant is portrayed as vulnerable and yet secure in the hands of his parents. He is swaddled in the American Flag. The hand of his father lifts him up with great determination and purpose; using his strength to hold the head of the infant securely for the entire journey. The mother’s hand, by contrast, forms a nurturing pose as she reluctantly and slowly lifts her child toward the heavens. The infant is simultaneously emitting a cry of victory and of separation with which the artist hopes to show the ambivalence even the bravest soldier feels when called to war. He clutches the American Flag against his chest with one hand. With the other hand, he raises his flag toward the Creator showing the courage that soldiers exhibit when they dare to reach higher than others!

Christus St. Catherine and Cross Creek Ranch have teamed up once again to help fight breast cancer.  Join them for a fun filled day for the whole family – including your leashed pet!  There will be tons of fun in the Kids Zone with a rock wall, face painters, a bounce house, and bobbing for apples.

Walk to honor, support or strengthen the cause and then celebrate at the Pink Pamper Party following the race.  The Party will feature local boutiques, spa services ( including pet pampering), Pink Market, Live Music by “Rewind” and much more.

Each participant receives a “Celebrate your Princess” tote & t-shirt.  Registration before October 9th it’s $15, from October 10th – 22nd it is $20, and on walk day it is $25.  Children 12 and under are free and t-shirts are available for purchase for the kids as well.  Check-in is at 8:00 am and the event begins at 9:00 am.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, aside from skin cancer. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), an estimated 192,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed among women in the United States this year. Today there are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States. Early detection and prevention are critical. This event benefits the CHRISTUS St. Catherine Breast Cancer Awareness Fund, promoting community outreach, health, wellness and education.

On Saturday, October 16th, you will want to checkout the 6th Annual Nun Run.  The Nun Run is a fifty-mile, Blue Knight police-escorted motorcycle ride from Houston to Galveston. The 2010 Nun Run benefits the children and families of CHRISTUS school-based clinics. Your donation will help provide flu vaccines, health education and screenings, back-to-school supplies and the promise of a brighter Christmas.

Non-riders can participate by pledging or donating gifts in support of the adventurous nuns. Proceeds directly benefit the children and families cared for by CHRISTUS ministries. There will be awards, prizes, breakfast, lunch and rides! Sidecars welcome.

Venice, Louisiana July 22, 2010 – The staff of McIntyre Youngblood Recruiting, in conjunction with the National Audubon Society, spent the day on the Gulf Coast as volunteer wildlife transport liaisons.

The staff volunteered in three different locations throughout the coast and Plaquemines Parish: Venice Beach, Joshua Marina, and Delta Marina. The volunteer effort was a success; each employee reiterated that giving back to the community was both gratifying and rewarding. “The oil spill has really hit our community hard, but with everyone’s efforts we can do our part in helping the cleanup and recovery,” said Lee Youngblood, co-founder of McIntyre Youngblood Recruiting, and a New Orleans resident.

McIntyre Youngblood Recruiting, LLC’s primary volunteer responsibility was to make sure that personnel at Unified Command-Houma Dispatch were assisted in the transportation efforts of affected wildlife to the rehabilitation center in Fort Jackson, Louisiana. McIntyre Youngblood Recruiting staff worked closely with National Audubon Society employees and animal transportation experts.

The animal activity was abnormally low on this day, which experts said could be both good and bad. The decreased pelican sightings were most likely caused by the looming tropical depression Bonnie, said animal transportation expert, Chris Trahan. “Animals naturally go in to hiding when weather patterns change,” said Trahan. The recovered pelicans have been tagged and released in Georgia, Florida, and Texas. Overall, the volunteer efforts were a success, with every McIntyre Youngblood Recruiting, LLC employee saying that the experience was both gratifying and rewarding.
