KPFT 90.1 FM presents the 1st Annual One World Music Jam showcasing the thunderous sounds, graceful movements and symbolic regalia of traditional cultures.
Experience a reverberating blend of ancient root rhythms and contemporary percussion arrangements from Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe. Feel the vibes as each company performs together on the same stage for the first time ever during this live musical performance and dance celebration.
Admission is free and covered seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Miller Outdoor Theatre’s main stage, located in a scenic urban park of an international city, is the ideal open air setting for this diverse audio and visual palette filled with rich textured explosions, hard and delicate, complex and simple. Throughout the evening, the performers will weave a dynamic tapestry of rhythmic sounds and movements, culminating in a cutting edge jam session.
Much more than just old school, traditional percussion, possibly starting with foot stomping and hand clapping, is believed to be one of the original instruments of music! Each company and individual member understands the importance of preserving and sharing the cultural heritage they represent with devotion. Individually they present unique artistic customs of their respective ancestral legacies. Performing together they exemplify the universality of human expression.
On this one night you will have the rare opportunity to be moved by an incredible, spontaneous drum circle in the finale you don’t want to miss!
Featuring members of Kuumba House Dance Theatre (African), Grupo Mitotiani (Mexica/Aztec), Kaminari Taiko (Japanese), Space City Gamelan (Indonesian), and Spot Albert (Irish).
