The filing period for the May 12 Katy ISD Board election will open on Monday, February 6, 2012, and close on Monday, March 5, at 5:00 p.m. The positions that are open for election this year:

Position 6, currently held by Robert Shaw
Position 7, currently held by Neal Howard

Applications can be picked up at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex, 6301 S. Stadium Lane, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from Bill Haskett in room 1610.

Katy ISD has a seven-member Board of Trustees whose members are elected at-large to fill available positions. In accordance with the provisions of the Texas Education Code, a person may not be elected trustee of Katy ISD unless the person is a qualified voter. An individual seeking election as a member of the Board of Trustees must have been a resident of the state for 12 months, and a resident of the District six months prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot.

The qualifications to serve as a board member in Katy Independent School District can be found in Board Policy BBA (Legal).  Some general qualifications to serve include:

• Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.

• Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.

• Be a registered voter.

• Serve without compensation.

Bridges to Close the Communication Gap: is a workshop for all relationship dynamics and focuses on improving communication styles.

Are men and women really that different? Barbershops, basketball courts and other ‘male’ gathering places are filled with conversations about women. These conversations also occur among women; but are men and women talking to each other (not at each other)? This interactive workshop is for an equal number of single men and single women to discuss current dating trends, the perceptions or misconceptions the genders may have about one another and to analyze and discuss current behavior and its impact on the dating experience.

But when they unexpectedly discover they’re now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance?  Danny is afraid to show his romantic side in front of his friends. Sandy is heartbroken. The cast sings and dances as they deal with the presence of labels in high school and their desire for someone to love.

Grease came to life on 5 February, 1971, when Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey staged an idea they had been working on, in Chicago. The musical is set in a 1959 American high school, and got its name from the hair, food, and custom cars that were popular at the time, all of which involved huge amounts of grease.

The production is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 23, 24, and 25 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a matinee performance on Saturday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m.
