Positions 6 & 7 Open for Election
The filing period for the May 12 KatyISD Board election closes on Monday, March 5, at 5:00 p.m. The positions that are open for election this year:
Position 6, currently held by Robert Shaw
Position 7, currently held by Neal Howard
Applications can be picked up at the KatyISD Education Support Complex, 6301 S. Stadium Lane, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from Bill Haskett in room 1610.
Katy ISD has a seven-member Board of Trustees whose members are elected at-large to fill available positions. In accordance with the provisions of the Texas Education Code, a person may not be elected trustee of Katy ISD unless the person is a qualified voter. An individual seeking election as a member of the Board of Trustees must have been a resident of the state for 12 months, and a resident of the District six months prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot.
The qualifications to serve as a board member in Katy Independent School District can be found in Board Policy BBA (Legal). Some general qualifications to serve include:
- Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.
- Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
- Be a registered voter.
- Serve without compensation.
