Sugar Land Cultural Kite Festival

kite-fest

“It’s a bird!  It’s a plane!”  Well actually, it could be both at the City’s 3rd annual Cultural Kite Festival held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Sugar Land Memorial Park.  Everyone is invited to enjoy the festival once again to participate in many activities such as a miniature kite museum showcasing the diversified history of kite making, kite flying lessons and various cultural performances.  Kite flying is a popular activity and sport in many countries around the world, and it has proved to be a major hit in Sugar Land as our City represents a mixture of cultures and diversity.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to enter kite flying competitions and win a variety of wonderful prizes.  Don’t have a kite?  Don’t worry!  A kite-making workshop will be onsite for children to build, design and take home their own kites as memorabilia.  There will be plenty of space for free flying kite lovers or those who prefer to stroll around and just enjoy the magnificent view and entertainment.

Other entertainment includes walk-around characters such as Ben Franklin, who will provide stories on the history of kite flying and its connection to the discovery of electricity.  Cirque style performers and stilt walkers will also roam the meadow enticing the crowd with their visual artistry and movement. Face painting and henna tattoos will also be available for children who want to partake in the festivities.
The main stage will come to life with cultural performances from local area groups The DJ will host children’s activities during intermissions, allowing kids to learn a cultural dance from a professional or engage with other kids in carnival-themed games.
