St. Patrick’s Day Party and Dance

American Legion Post 164 of Katy and the Irish American Heritage Association are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual St.Patrick’s Day Party and Dance benefiting both organizations.  The event will be held on March 14th at the Katy Elks Lodge 2628, 1050 Katy Fort Bend Road.  The event will kick off at 1:00 pm and last until 5:00 pm.

In addition to the music and dancing, the IAHA and the American Legion will sponsor an Irish Soda Bread Baking contest.  Entrants will pay a $1 entry fee andprovide the judges with 2 loaves.  One will be plain – to be sliced & sampled by the judges.  The second will be shared with the guests and may be buttered.  The IAHA will provide a trophy, plates, and napkins. A photo of the winning entry will be taken for the IAHA.

Highlighting the entertainment will be the Cass Academy Irish Dancers.

Admission to this year’s event will be $10 per person, $15 per couple or $25 per family of four.  Tickets are available by calling 281-578-9417.

2010 Children’s Art & Poetry Contest

houston-texas-onlineChildren ages 6 – 12 who live in Harris, Fort Bend or Montgomery County are eligible to participate in an annual art and poetry contest.

Deadline to submit work is March 31, 2010, but children will receive 5 points which will count toward their total score if they submit their work prior to March 15th.

Children are encouraged to submit their work as soon as possible as it will be posted on the web site (no names will be shown on the entries as independent judges will be judging the entries on their merit alone and will not be given the names of the children).

There are three categories – art (1st – 2nd grade), art (3rd – 5th grade) and poetry (3rd – 5th grade).

Gift certificates to Memorial City Mall will be awarded to the children with winning entries as follows:

Best of Show—$200

1st Place—$150

2nd Place—$100

3rd Place—$75

Honorable Mention-$50

KVPAC’s Encore Players Drama Dog Headshot Contest

kvpacKVPAC is holding a special photo contest promoting the upcoming play, Sylvia.  Send your dog’s best photo for the Encore Players Drama Dog Headshot Contest.  Enter to win by sending a high-resolution jpeg close-up of your dog or drop off an 8 x 10 at KVPAC.  All submissions must be received by January 30, 2010. Photos will be displayed in KVPAC’s theatre lobby and audience members will vote during intermission at each performance of Sylvia.  One winner will be declared at the close of the production and will receive a special doggie prize basket.  Sylvia is a romantic comedy about a husband, wife and the free-spirited dog who comes between them!  Sponsored by Waggin Tails Pet Ranch.  Contact: Lisa Connolly, KVPAC Marketing Director, 281-829-2787 281-829-2787, lconnolly@KVPAC.org.

Firethorne Team Purchases Award-Winning Livestock to Support Katy I.S.D FFA

Livestock Show Auction. The Firethorne team purchased six animals in total, including the Reserve Champion Goat and fifth place goat, and sixth and eighth place rabbits, among others, to support the Katy I.S.D. Summer Contest Winners!

OnlyKaty’s first contest was a huge success! I want to thank all the readers so much for participating and sharing with us your favorite summer activities. We got an overwhelming number of responses with some really great ideas.

Without further ado, I would like to announce the 3 Target Gift Card Winners along with their favorite activities:

It’s Summer Contest Time!

Summer Fun in Katy TexasWith Summer break for the kids coming to a close in a few weeks time, many families are looking for last minute fun things to do before embarking on another school year. And here is where all the readers come into play.

OnlyKaty wants to know what your favorite summer activity to do with the family is. Is it something as simple as going to get ice cream on a warm summer night? Or is it a fabulous day trip around town? What is it that you like to do with your family to make memories and special traditions?

We want to know. We really do.

And we are prepared to give away three $10 gift cards to Target for your input. We know everyone could use a gift card to Target, right?

How To Enter:
All you have to do is leave a comment on this article telling us what your favorite family activity or memory is. Simple enough! That is really all you have to do. We want to know how our readers spend time with their families making memories and traditions.

The deadline to enter will be Sunday, August 3rd. We will then randomly draw three of the people who commented and post their favorite activities.
