Dollar Floor Store History

Dollar Floor Store began in 2007 in College Station. The idea was born out of a tent sale the ownership ran in the parking lot of Brazos Valley Carpet Outlet. It was such a smashing success that they realized what a great idea it was to open a discount floor company using the same principals of discounts that come with their purchasing power. They also had many years in the flooring business and established close, friendly relationships with vendors and manufacturers they draw on to this day. While initially a close-out store, Dollar Floor Store quickly changed their plan and began to stock top-quality warrantied products just like any other flooring store. They are aligned with all major vendors.

In July 2009, Dollar Floor Store opened their second location, here in Katy. Of all possible locations Katy was chosen because of the area’s rapid population growth and wanted to become a part of the city’s success story. They became the first and only in-stock style flooring company in Katy. Though the first six months were difficult as they lacked name recognition in the area. This also coincided with a rough period in the American economy when retail sales slipped across the board. They were able to weather the storm once word-of-mouth began to spread and people found out what great deals Dollar Floor Store has to offer.

Dollar Floor Store is a proud, patriotic, American company. Though they sell all lines of products, they take great pride in recommending American made companies such as Mannington and Shaw. They believe in doing their part to keep manufacturing jobs here in the country and helping to revitalize the American economy.

The company’s main goal for the future is to push into some of Katy’s upscale homes, including the Cinco Ranch area. Regional Manager Barry Ely says for some of these customers the greatest challenge is getting past the name and understanding the quality of products available.

“Luxury customers, we have everything for you,” Ely said. “Don’t be afraid of the name. There are no cheap foreign knockoffs here. This is an American owned and operated company and we sell nothing but the best.”

Ely adds, “Do you need to buy from a store with fancy, yet pointless displays, or do you want the exact same product at a better price? It doesn’t matter what your budget is, everyone should want to keep as much of their money as possible.”

The Dollar Floor Store has so far proven themselves a worthy alternative to the high-priced flooring stores. The employees and management have an emotional attachment to the company you will see upon entering.
