Take it all in. After the West Side Story actress’ BAFTAs rap went viral, Angela Basset reached out to Arianna DeBose.
Her last night via DM. I did. At the NAACP Awards on Saturday, February 25, 64-year-old Bassett told Variety that the event was stunning. It’s a lot of attention, so I simply wanted to make sure she was okay. And she’s OK.
Later that evening, Bassett received Entertainer of the Year, Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her work in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in 9-1-1. She made a playful allusion to DeBose’s song as she entered the stage to receive her last award.
I suppose Angela Bassett accomplished the task, huh? At the conclusion of her acceptance speech, she chuckled.
DeBose, 32, praised Bassett and uploaded the video on Instagram Story.
On Sunday, February 19, the Oscar winner opened the British Academy Film Awards with a tribute to the women who were nominated for their efforts. Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves and We Are Family were sung by DeBose, but the energetic performance was best remembered for an original rap.

Blanchett Cate, you’re a genius. Jamie Lee [Curtis], you are all of us. Angela Bassett did the right thing. Viola Davis, myWoman King, DeBose stated during the interview.
Social media users immediately fixated on the rap, with some jokingly mocking the performance and others arguing that it ought to be incorporated into Bassett’s Oscars acceptance speech (assuming she wins the best supporting actress category).
During the commotion, DeBosede opened her Twitter account, as noted by keen-eyed fans. She has, however, expressed her thoughts on Instagram.
The internet is crazy, you guys. Thank you for the support, she captioned multiple images and videos mentioning her rap.

One video showed Adele making reference to the rap at one of her Las Vegas performances, while the first footage had Lizzor quoting DeBose’s famous line during a recent gig. Didn’t we find out that Angela Bassett was responsible for the incident? The singer of “I Drink Wine” made a joke. But, I adore her. I cherish Ariana.
DeBose also posted a photo of a bouquet that Wanda Sykes had sent along with the note, “I liked it!” YOU took action.
