Red carpet prepared! During the 2023 SAG Awards, Christina Applegate surprised the audience by indicating that she would give acting a break as she fights multiple sclerosis.
Applegate, 51, posed for pictures with her 12-year-old daughter Sadie, whom she shares with Martyn LeNoble, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Century City, California, on Sunday, February 26. Both members of the mother-daughter team sported all-black outfits for the ceremony.
The third and last season of the Netflix series Dead to Me, which premieres in November 2022, has earned the California native a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actress in a Comedy Series.
Jen Harding, a widow whose husband was slain by a hit-and-run driver, is portrayed by Applegate. At a bereavement support group, she becomes friends with Judy Hale (Linda Cardellini), but she subsequently discovers that not everything is as it seems.
Applegate made a suggestion that she might be stepping away from the spotlight earlier than anticipated weeks before Sunday’s event. I find it difficult to picture getting up at 5 a.m. right now. and working on a set for 12 to 14 hours, Samantha Who? alum said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that was published on February 7. It is not something I currently possess.
She continued by saying that the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards will likely be her final award ceremony as an actor and that she thought that was kind of a big deal.
The Married With Children star clarified that she has no plans to quit acting altogether, but she did joke that she might start doing a lot more voice-over work to supplement her income.
Applegate has had a long career in Hollywood, but in August 2021, she disclosed that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She wrote on Twitter at the time, “It’s been a wild road.” Yet the people I know who also have this problem have been very encouraging to me. It’s been a difficult road. But as we are all aware, the journey continues. Unless a hole blocks the way.
The Emmy winner continued, “We wake up and take the necessary action,” as one of my friends with MS said. And I carry out that. I now request your privacy. As I work my way through this. I’m grateful xo.
Selma Blair, the star of Her Sweetest Thing, who has diagnosed with MS herself in 2018, was quick to offer support to Applegate during this trying time. Love you forever. Always present. Our children are too. She tweeted, “Beating us up with love.”

The Bad Momactress, a breast cancer survivor, has tried her best to remain steadfast ever since speaking out about her health struggles. She made her first public appearance since disclosing her MS diagnosis in November 2022 to receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She spoke about the Dead to Mes final season filming procedure in the same month.
Before the third season’s premiere, she told The New York Times, “This is the first time anyone is going to see me the way I am. I gained 40 pounds, and now I need a cane to get around. I want people to know that I am acutely conscious of everything.

Despite the challenges she faced, Applegate was adamant about finishing the production. I owed it to our tale, to [creator] Liz [Feldman], to Linda, and to myself. The ruling class said, “Let’s simply quit.” We don’t have to complete it. Let’s put together a few episodes, she said, according to the publication. I replied, “No.” We’re going to do it, but only under my conditions.
