The justification is rather straightforward: Jon Favreau has already written the entire new season, and given the Star Wars series’ enormous success, its return is a given.
Could the plot diverge from what was originally intended? In theory, yes, and we do question whether season 3’s divisive nature will have an impact.
However, for now, you may continue to think that we will receive more, and with that, it all depends on when these episodes will shoot and then aired.
Is it conceivable that the fourth season will air by the end of the next year? In theory, yes, but it would likely need that manufacturing to begin in the near future.
The Mandalorian requires a significant amount of post-production, just like every other show in the larger Star Wars world, so even after filming is finished, there is still a lot of work to be done.
What Also Could Complicate Things
Pedro Pascal’s schedule later this year gets significantly busy because of The Last of Us Season 2. It’s true that he isn’t always the actor in the suit, and season 3 was a particularly bad example of this because he was juggling two shows at once.
But what if Din Djarin takes off his helmet for a while? Additionally, I believe that you want Pascal to be heard, and there is a certain aspect of this that must be taken into account in some way.
A team-up movie including several of Dave Filoni’s projects is another thing to consider, along with another potential surprise we hear about during the season 3 finale.
Disney undoubtedly has a clear strategy for all of this, but they might wait a time before sharing it with us. We wouldn’t be surprised if The Mandalorian made a comeback in 2025.
