On Monday night, the New York Rangers will take on the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 7 at the PNC Arena in Raleigh. As they seek to return to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 1997, the Rangers beat the Hurricanes 5-2 on Saturday to force a game seven.

In the wake of their heartbreaking playoff defeat to the New York Rangers, the Penguins had no desire to repeat their handshake loss at a packed Madison Square Garden, which saw the Penguins lose a 3-1 series lead after the Rangers mounted one stunning comeback after another. This was Pittsburgh’s fourth straight one-and-done during a time of year Crosby, Malkin, and Letang have defined.
‘They’re all different,’ said Crosby, who was knocked unconscious in the head by New York’s Jacob Trouba during Game 5 and was unable to return for Game 6. “It’s a bit of a challenge to get through them all. To categorize every single one of them together, I’d probably feel like we’d get this one.”
This could have been Malkin and Letang’s final Penguins uniform appearance, and he realizes that Crosby knows it. Bryan Rust, the explosive forward who helped the Penguins win two Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017, is a free agent this summer. Keeping any of them would be prohibitively expensive.
